How to Download Speechify MP3 Files: Reader vs Studio

You have a document that sounds right in Speechify. Now you want the MP3 on your phone, in a folder, or in another player. Before buying a second speech app, check whether the subscription you already have can do the job.

Speechify does support MP3 downloads. Its Reader help describes downloading documents, and its PDF guide says Premium users can export them. Studio has its own export workflow and a separate subscription. Advice that every download requires Studio misses the Reader option.

We make Rekam, another text-to-speech tool. The Speechify steps below come from its official documentation, checked October 28, 2026, not from a hands-on test of your account. We explain Rekam later, including when buying it would add nothing useful.

Download a document from Speechify Reader

Speechify's MP3 download instructions describe this route in the web reader:

  1. Open the document you want to save as audio.
  2. Use the downward arrow next to its filename to reveal the menu.
  3. Choose Download to open the export settings.
  4. Pick the whole document or specific pages, then choose a voice.
  5. If exporting selected pages, mark the pages you want included.

There is an important voice restriction: the help page says celebrity voices are not downloadable. It says an export made with one selected falls back to the John voice. Check that before spending time comparing the downloaded file with what you heard in the reader.

If the menu or entitlement differs in your account, check the plan shown there and ask Speechify support about that specific export. Do not buy Studio solely because an older tutorial says Reader cannot download audio.

Export a recording from Speechify Studio

Studio is the production editor, not another name for the Reader subscription. According to its export instructions, use the three-dot menu beside a text block for that block's audio, or the upper-right Export control for the complete project.

The Studio pricing FAQ says MP3 downloading requires a paid plan. It also distinguishes the free plan from paid plans with commercial usage rights. Check the offer in your account before paying; being able to play a recording is not the same as being entitled to export or publish it.

Studio's subscription help lists both monthly and annual options. An annually priced card on a comparison page is not evidence that annual payment is the only choice.

Three checks before paying for another tool

Do you need a file, or just faster listening? Speechify's download-speed help says exported audio stays at 1x. Its suggested workaround is to adjust speed in the player used for listening. Changing apps may be unnecessary if that solves your problem.

Is the text itself correct? Preview the extracted document. A repeated page header or a sentence split across columns can spoil the recording even when the voice sounds good. Listen to a difficult paragraph and the ending, not only the introduction.

Are you publishing it? Keep that decision separate from downloading. Check the permissions for the source material and voice, plus the service's usage terms. A saved MP3 is a file, not proof of permission to put it in a course, advertisement or audiobook.

When Rekam is an option, and when it is not

Rekam is an option for a prepared passage or script that you want to turn into one downloadable MP3. You can paste text or import a selectable-text PDF, EPUB or TXT file into the full generator, review the text, then choose a voice. Importing does not itself generate audio. Scanned PDFs need OCR elsewhere; check reading order before proceeding.

This is not a way to transfer a Speechify celebrity voice or project. It is also not an unlimited whole-book conversion service. The current member workflow supports up to 30,000 characters per request with ElevenLabs Turbo v2.5, including spaces and punctuation. Other member models support up to 5,000 characters. Characters are not words.

If you already like Speechify and can export the file you need, keep using it. Rekam having a download button is not a reason to pay twice. If you need a full production editor, compare editing and revision controls rather than choosing only by the first month's price.

What the Rekam option actually costs

Standard is $9.99 per month with 5,000 credits, valid for one month. Premium is $29.99 per month with 20,000 credits. Both monthly memberships renew automatically unless cancelled; they have the same member model access and input limits. A credit top-up alone does not unlock those member features.

For ElevenLabs Turbo v2.5, the current generation costs are:

Text in one requestCredits used
2,000 characters100
20,000 characters1,000
30,000 characters1,500

A short voice check also uses credits on that model. For example, a 2,000-character test followed by a 30,000-character recording and one complete regeneration totals 3,100 credits. Each new generation uses credits, including revisions. Downloading an existing result is different from generating another take.

Free accounts can use Kokoro for up to 2,000 characters per request. That lets you try a short text-to-MP3 workflow, but it does not preview the paid ElevenLabs voice. There is no free premium-voice trial or one-document purchase in the offer described here.

Compare Rekam's monthly plans and included credits. Read the long-script limits and workflow and refund policy before purchasing.

Finish with a file you can actually use

To try the existing workflow, open the full speech generator. Review your text, select the model and voice, and check the displayed cost before generating. Use a short passage first rather than spending your allowance on an untested full document.

Once you have a result, download it and open the saved file in the player you intend to use. Check the final sentence and any names or numbers that matter. Rekam's stated storage window is 72 hours, so keep your own copy rather than treating the result link as permanent storage.

The buying decision is whether this gets your particular recording finished at an acceptable cost. If your current Speechify account already does that, you do not need another subscription.
